Executive Officer's Opinion piece '...The opportunities for recovering and making money from forest harvest residues is being realised by a growing number of forest owners. While common public perception is that the recovery of plantation forestry is done poorly, resulting in slash problems when there are large storm events, this is not actually always the situation in well-managed plantation forests. The article in this issue by OneFortyOne showing how they are aiming for near 100% residue recovery, is more common than public perception indicates. However full residue recovery can only happen when there is an economic market nearby for the residue. In Tairawhiti and many other similar areas there is no market for the residues...
