Powerco’s Renewable Gas team members David Hendry and Elizabeth Smart attended the Value of Biogas West conference in Vancouver in early October and visited two farm AD to biomethane sites in Abbotsford, British Columbia.

Canadians consider themselves to be a decade behind Europe in regard to the maturity of their biogas industry, however with nearly 300 active projects operating, they are likely over a decade ahead of New Zealand.

David and Elizabeth will discuss aspects of the Canadian market detailed in the conference such as:

  • Carbon Intensity Credits
  • Project investment and insurance
  • Decarbonising residential customers
  • Technology innovations

They will also talk through the two site visits and share lessons learnt during design, construction and operation of biogas plants.
