Webinar: Straw briquetting and use of the briquettes for heating
The capacity of agriculture to provide solid biofuel from straw and other herbaceous plants will be an additional income source for farmers.
Many farms are diversifying the crops they grow on their land and seek herbaceous break crops as a tool to improve land management. Sequestration of CO2 to offset animal emissions is also becoming a valuable financial consideration for resilient business operations.
Crop residues are currently often under-utilised, and are disposed of to waste, because of logistics constraints and lack of incentives. The collection and processing of crop residue into biofuels has been extensively developed in Europe and their skills and experience is transferrable to New Zealand and Australia.
This webinar will outline many of the methods and equipment used in Europe to turn biomass which would otherwise be wasted into a valuable biofuel or feedstock for processing into other bio-based products. A particular emphasis will be on densification into briquettes to reduce transport, storage and handling costs.
The Bioenergy Association invites anyone interested in using straw as a biofuel should attend this webinar
