Technical Note BB06: Bioenergy support programmes

New Zealand does not have subsidies for renewable energy development or grants etc to support specific projects.  The New Zealand Government has light handed renewable energy policies and has developed business growth initiatives which encourage the use of renewable energy.  In the main however any renewable energy project has to be financially secure unassisted in the open market.

Government works with the Bioenergy Association and regional entities to provide assistance to those contemplating moving from using fossil fuels to using biomass and other organic matter for the production of heat, liquid fuels and biogas energy.

This guide provides a summary of the support available for investigating and implementing bioenergy projects. For additional information of clarification contact executive@bioenergy.org.nz
