About the webinar
Islands for the Future of Humanity provides analysis and mitigation options for global catastrophic risks such as extreme pandemics and nuclear war. Islands like New Zealand and Australia are vulnerable to trade and supply chain collapse impacting fuel and energy supply. Our analysis have determined the minimal volume of liquid biofuel to sustain food production and local shipping in scenarios of catastrophic loss of fossil fuel imports.
Biodiesel is increasingly used as shipping fuel globally. This trend is projected to accelerate. Governments are looking for ways to ensure liquid fuel security in the face of geopolitical tensions.

- Islands for the Future of Humanity has developed case study analyses of liquid biofuel for food security and shipping resilience.

About the presenter
Matt holds a medical degree and PhD in philosophy. He has 10-years’ experience researching global catastrophic risks such as extreme pandemics and nuclear war.
Matt has published dozens of peer-reviewed research papers on risk and resilience. He led the philanthropically funded 2023 Aotearoa NZ Catastrophe Resilience Project and is now the Executive Director of resilience org Islands for the Future of Humanity.
Matt will co-present with Mike Hodgkinson, an independent researcher with focus on shipping resilience who has innovation experience in zero carbon fuel propulsion.
